Fuck Yeah Awesome '90s Stuff!

Anonymous asked: I was born in 92 and I hate the term "90's kid" I have very fond but very idealized memories of the 90's and I cannot honestly say that I properly experienced the 90's the way teens and adults experienced it. That being said that does not mean I don't enjoy learning about the decade any less. I love te riot grrrl movement and Buffy and Fiona Apple...

Well, I think it’s assumed that when you’re a kid, everything is idealized. I’m an ’80s kid and I didn’t experience that decade the same way as a teenager or adult at all. I remember it for the toys and pop music and cartoons and all that fun kid stuff. It was a crazy and kind of scary time politically, but apart from vague Cold War fears of the Soviets nuking us (I read way too many Young Adult novels with that theme), I have little memory of that. And that’s ok, because kids aren’t supposed to worry about that stuff. And if they do worry about that stuff, their parents aren’t doing a super job.

So, embrace your ’90s kid-ness. I got older and learned more about the ’80s and began embracing all the underground music and culture that came out of it. And wishing I’d been old enough to experience it first-hand. It happens to everyone.
