Yesterday my favourite band ever announced they were breaking up. Long live R.E.M. Though they made music in the ’80s, ’90s, ’00s, and ’10s, it was in the ’90s where they made their biggest mainstream splash and the biggest impact on my life, as I “discovered” them in 1991 at the age of 14. They were that “kept me alive” band in high school. Sometimes I felt like I needed them more than food or air. So, I’m pretty sad today, but also proud of their legacy.
So, here’s one of their lesser-known gems from the ’90s — “Near Wild Heaven.” It always cheers me up when I’m feeling down.
